The Strength of Your Signals

Let the Message In
You won’t believe how many of my best ideas show up in the quiet. In the earliest hours of the morning, when the world is still stretching awake, I find myself reaching for a notebook, capturing little sparks of insight that feel like they’re riding on the sunrise itself. Years ago, it might have been a quick email or a handwritten note. Now, sometimes it’s a voice memo or a nudge from an AI reminder I set days earlier.
Whatever the method, I’ve learned that when you create enough stillness, the signal you’re meant to hear finally comes through—strong, clear, and true. It's a powerful reminder that even in a noisy world, you have the ability to tune into what matters most. You just have to listen.
Finding the Frequencies
It’s wild to think how many different types of signals I’ve experienced across my life. I remember the first time my family got a computer with America Online. Dial-up internet was a whole thing—those shrieks and beeps and bloops that somehow translated into a portal to the world. I thought we were living like royalty when we got those early digital encyclopedias and played with WordArt graphics for the first time. (The typewriter graphic was my absolute favorite. If you know, you know.)
Fast forward a few years and I found myself navigating New York City as a college student—landlines and answering machines at first, payphones on every corner. Then came the breakthrough: my very first cell phone. Total mobility. Total transformation. And not long after that, social media crept into our lives. "Likes" became a new kind of signal, something no yearbook had ever offered—instant public validation. A totally different landscape of connection.
Each wave of new technology sent out a new kind of signal. A new way to connect, to communicate, to announce ourselves to the world. And now? AI is the next frontier. It’s faster, deeper, and smarter—but the core question remains: Are you really tuning in to what matters most?
Broadcast with Intention
If there’s one thing that hasn’t changed through all these evolutions, it’s this: the strongest signals still come from a place of clarity. Not noise. Not hype. Clarity.
You can have a million followers, a million notifications, a million little digital “pings”—and still feel totally disconnected. Because connection isn't about how loud you are. It's about what you're saying, and why you're saying it.
When you build your signal intentionally—when your leadership voice is strong, authentic, and consistent—you create real connection. You build trust. You form relationships that outlast algorithms, trends, or technologies. The point of broadcasting your message isn’t just to hear the sound of your own voice; it’s to build something that matters with others. It's to say: Here I am. Here’s what I stand for. Let’s build something together.
Seeing the New Signals
The world is throwing so much information at us, faster than ever. New tech. New apps. New ways to communicate. And it’s not slowing down.
But here’s the real secret: The stronger your own signal is, the easier it is to find your path forward. When you know what you stand for—and you send that message consistently—you don’t get overwhelmed by the noise. You start seeing the signs meant for you. You spot opportunities more clearly. You trust your instincts. You recognize when it’s time to pivot, and when it’s time to push through.
It’s not about waiting for a random sign to point you in the right direction. It’s about understanding your own mission so well that when the right signs show up, you know it. You recognize them without hesitation.
Okay, Let’s Play
The world is full of signals. The key is making sure you’re tuned in to the ones that matter most.
Ready: Pause and reflect on the signals you’re sending out to the world right now.
Set: Ask yourself: Are your words, actions, and energy aligned with the message you want others to receive?
Go:
- Think about the last message you sent (email, post, meeting). Was it clear? Was it intentional?
- Choose one platform you use regularly and do a quick “signal check.” Does your presence match your purpose?
- Set one micro-goal for the week: a note you’ll send, a message you’ll share, a connection you’ll nurture.
- Notice the signals coming toward you. Which ones feel aligned? Which ones are just noise? Filter wisely.
The Signal is You
It’s your heart. Your values. Your purpose.
It’s the way you choose to show up.
It’s the community you build around you.
And if you stay steady, intentional, and brave about the signals you send into the world, you won't have to scramble to catch every new trend or platform or headline. You'll already be building something real—something no amount of noise can drown out. The clearest signals always come from within. Stay true to yours.
