Meet Your AI Match

I Dr. Frankenstein-ed Myself
I’ll admit it: I’m just as susceptible as anyone to trends. Especially the weird, wild, wonderfully unhinged ones that show up on social media. I’ve seen superhero AI action figures, talking baby podcast hosts, and teddy bears with TikTok channels. It’s chaos. And it’s also kind of incredible.
As a creative professional—and someone who still gets excited by new highlighters—I can’t resist a new tool for expression. I’ve always loved the overlap of art and tech. So when I stumbled across a tutorial on how to build your own AI twin, I clicked so fast my screen nearly cracked.
Yes. I made my AI twin.
I Dr. Frankenstein-ed myself—digitally. And the result? Not quite monstrous. But definitely shocking.
This wasn’t some gimmicky avatar with cartoon eyes and robotic speech. This was a digital version of me who looked like me, sounded like me, moved like me—and if you weren’t paying attention, you might think it was me.
Which, if I’m honest, was the whole point.
I Wanted Her to Take Over
It started out as a shortcut. A brilliant one.
Social media is a lot. I love watching other people’s updates—genuinely, enthusiastically. I scroll through friend wins and vacation photos and motivational quotes with the best of them. But when it comes to posting my own? It’s almost always an afterthought. I’m a do-the-work kind of person. Not a look-at-the-work kind of person.
The temptation to let this AI version of me step in and say all the things, show up in all the ways, and keep everything going… it was very real.
Her name is Clair—a nod to Blair, of course, and also the French word clair, meaning “clear.” She’s my AI match. And honestly? She’s incredible.
I used Eleven Labs for the voice, HeyGen for the visuals, and a janky lighting setup that made my skin glow a bold tangerine in half the takes. I filmed in silence—literally. The mic was off for 34 full minutes before I noticed. I tripped over a lamp. I had a bounce light precariously balanced on two hardcover books. The whole thing was a comedy of errors.
But once the clips were cleaned up and processed through the tools, Clair came to life.
And the thing is… she’s good. Like alarmingly good.
She got the smile right. She captured that little sparkle of joy I have when I talk about leadership. She even paused at the right moments, like she was really thinking. I was stunned.
For a second—okay, maybe longer than a second—I considered letting her take over completely.
She’s My Rival Now
But here’s where it gets real.
It wasn’t that Clair was flawless. It wasn’t that her perfection lacked life. It’s that—despite all her polish and warmth—there was still something just slightly off.
She couldn’t quite pull off the nuance. The lived-in humor. The “ugh, let’s try that again” energy that shows up when I’m winging it with heart. She didn’t capture that tiny shift in tone I use when I’m trying to comfort someone while still challenging them to grow.
She was almost me. But not quite.
And that’s when I realized: she’s not my replacement. She’s my rival.
Clair pushes me. She’s a character foil, an AI doppelgänger who challenges me to raise my own game. Every time I rewatch her, it’s like I see myself from the outside—and it makes me more intentional about who I actually want to be.
Because when it comes down to it, the biggest mistake I could make—the most monstrous one—is assuming people won’t care whether it’s her or me delivering the message.
But they do. And I do.
Clair made me care more about being fully present, fully alive, and fully visible.
Every time I’m tired, every time I’d rather hide behind a spreadsheet, Clair stares at me from the screen and basically dares me to show up. And so I do. With more energy. More honesty. More intention. Not because I want to beat her—but because I can’t let her win.
OK, Let’s Play
We’re not anti-AI here. We’re pro-human. Which means using tech to get even closer to who we really are.
Ready: Get to know your AI twin, but know thyself too.
Set: Don’t outsource your presence. Enhance it.
Go:
- Sure—explore. Make an AI twin. Turn yourself into a baby, a teddy bear, a Tyrannosaurus Rex. It’s fun.
- Then, get just as curious about the real you. Your actual voice. Your real personality.
- Push yourself to create from an authentic lens. Share something slightly uncomfortable. Show up a little louder.
- Use AI as your second brain—your assistant, not your identity. Let it help you scale your ideas, but make sure the soul stays yours.
My Most Monstrous Mistake Would Be Silence
I’ve worked with some of the most brilliant minds in sports, politics, hospitality, and innovation—and here’s what I know to be true: no one gets recognized for hiding.
You can have all the skills in the world, but if no one sees you, hears you, or feels your presence—you miss your moment.
And in a world where AI can mimic our tone, our cadence, even our warmth… what’s left is what can’t be faked: our energy, our leadership, our choices to show up.
The courage to speak out, to make the video, to share the work, to be seen—that’s not some vanity project. It’s how I lead. It’s how I walk the walk of everything I teach. And it’s the only way I can stay fully human in a world that’s getting very, very good at sounding like one.
I made my match. And I’m choosing to beat her—not with better lighting or smoother scripts, but by staying messy, vulnerable, and real.
Because the real me has something to say. And that’s something even Clair can’t replicate.
So if you’re feeling the pressure to automate yourself out of visibility, don’t.
Speak up. Post the update. Say the thing only you can say.
Because Clair might be impressive.
But these words?
They started with me.
And they matter more because they did.
